Brewer Harding & Rowe was originally established at Combe Martin in the early 1790's by Richard Harding, who was a member of a well-known North Devon land-owning family. They lived at Buzzacott Manor, Combe Martin and later at Upcott House, near Barnstaple. The early work of the firm involved the management of the Harding Estate and in 1988 the partners gave a large collection of Harding family papers to the North Devon Records Office.
The firm grew steadily during the 19th century and was acquired by Geoffrey Stallard, a London solicitor, just after the Second World War. A partnership of the Stallard family (father, mother and daughter) ran the firm as a general country practice until the late 1970's.
A period of rapid expansion followed their retirement. In 1982, the firm acquired the Bideford practice of T. Oerton & Martin. In 1993, the firm merged with the Ilfracombe practice of Messrs. Rowe Watts & Wood, which had been the leading firm in that town for nearly 100 years.
In 1996 the firm merged with the firm of Brewers which had been a long established and leading firm in Barnstaple for over 200 years with a wide ranging client base. The merger of the two firms has resulted in Brewer Harding & Rowe as we know it today.
The aim of the firm is to provide a high quality service to our many clients throughout North Devon and beyond. This is achieved by setting ourselves a high standard in our quality of work and a high level of commitment to our clients by Partners and staff alike. The phrase "Understanding People" best describes our commitment to both our clients and our colleagues.
