We are able to provide clear and objective advice and sensitive help with all problems in this area of the law. The team have a depth of expertise and experience in divorce, separation, the financial consequences of relationship breakdown, cohabitation, pre-marital agreements, and children proceedings.
Our aim is to provide expert legal advice and representation to enable clients to be sure of their rights and help them reach a fair settlement. Our professional, yet personal, service is tailored to meet the aims of the individual and provide peace of mind and sensible pro-active solutions to the range of family and children problems that can arise. Our experience enables us to minimise conflict and hostility wherever possible and to work with clients to obtain the best possible outcome.
The complexity of issues in family matters requires specialist and discrete guidance. This often includes advice on the international aspects of disputes, commercial issues and business concerns.
All of the team are members of the Solicitors Family Law Association, two are member of the Law Society's Family Law Panel, and two are members of the Solicitors Family Law Association panel of experts. This panel membership reflects their particular expertise in these areas, above and beyond the normal legal qualification.
We have good contacts with a range of professionals and can help put you in touch with other professionals and advice agencies where appropriate for specialist help such as pensions and tax advice.
We take an approach which is designed to assist parties in coming to a suitable outcome, and utilise the Solicitors Family Law Association Code of Practice in appropriate cases.
Obtaining a divorce can be straightforward if both parties agree that the marriage is over. Difficulties arise in resolving how and when to separate, where to live, and what arrangements to make for children and finances.
Blake Lapthorn Linnell offers a constructive approach to help progress things as quickly as possible. We will be happy to discuss anything that is unclear or answer any further questions you may have.
Anyone who has been married for over a year, providing one of the couple has their permanent home, or has been resident at least a year prior to the divorce petition is started, in England or Wales. It doesn't matter where you were married.
The divorce takes approximately 4-6 months although the Decree Absolute is often not obtained until the finances are resolved. This may be much later.
