7. Hall Smith Whittingham Solicitors
We have more accredited specialists to deal with all aspects of Divorce and Family work than any other firm in SE Cheshire (and probably wider a field) and are amongst the leading firms in the whole of the North of the Country in terms of Specialists, experience and expertise. We are a formidable Family Law team.

Hall Smith Whittingham have an established reputation as experts in Family Breakdown cases and Child Care Law. Our experts in our Family Department have almost 100 years experience between them. The firm holds a Legal Services Commission franchise and we are rigorously audited on the quality and advice of the work this team does. Our team members are variously members of the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA), The Law Societies' Family Law panel and Children panels. No less than 4 of the team also have accredited specialist status with the SFLA and one has Higher Rights of Audience in the High Court (Civil).

Our aim is not to be the cheapest firm of solicitors around. We do not profess to being so, nor do we want to be. Cheap prices will ultimately mean poor advice and service.

What we do care about is offering clients sound advice and the best possible service we can give for the best possible price. Our existing clients appreciate this. The major source of our work arises from recommendation and existing clients returning to us.

8. Thompson and Cooke Solicitors
We?re here to offer all the advice you need during the breakdown of your marriage or long term relationship and help you achieve a fair settlement as opposed to an unfair and costly dispute combined with the heavy legal costs of a court hearing. Our solicitors will negotiate a settlement that?s similar to the sort of order a court would likely make.

If a divorce is inevitable, an order should be made by the court confirming the terms of the agreement. Wherever possible this will be done by post without the parties having to experience the stress of going to court. If however there is little apparent chance of an agreement, an application must be made to the court to resolve the issues at hand, instead of wasting valuable time on pointless argument and negotiation.

With Thompson & Cooke you can be assured of receiving straightforward, honest and effective advice on all legal matters. As solicitors with a great deal of experience in all areas of the law, rest assured we will represent your interests with the highest degree of attention to detail.

10. Chafes Solicitors - Progressive Lawyers with Traditional Values
If you have come to the decision that your marriage has broken down irretrievably then to legally dissolve your marriage you will need to obtain a Decree of divorce from the Courts. A divorce must be based on 1 of 5 facts :- adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion, 2 years separation and the consent of the other party or 5 years separation.

If you feel that your circumstances fall within one of these categories we can assist you with drafting the necessary documentation and corresponding with the Court to obtain a divorce. This procedure generally takes between 4-6 months and ends with the Court granting a Decree Absolute of Divorce.

Be Aware however that the granting of the Decree Absolute does not finalise any financial claim that your spouse may have against you (see Financial Arrangements following Marriage Breakdown).
