13. Chafes Solicitors - Progressive Lawyers with Traditional Values
If you have come to the decision that your marriage has broken down irretrievably then to legally dissolve your marriage you will need to obtain a Decree of divorce from the Courts. A divorce must be based on 1 of 5 facts :- adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion, 2 years separation and the consent of the other party or 5 years separation.
If you feel that your circumstances fall within one of these categories we can assist you with drafting the necessary documentation and corresponding with the Court to obtain a divorce. This procedure generally takes between 4-6 months and ends with the Court granting a Decree Absolute of Divorce.
Be Aware however that the granting of the Decree Absolute does not finalise any financial claim that your spouse may have against you (see Financial Arrangements following Marriage Breakdown).
