Collaborative family law is a new process started by family lawyers who were concerned about how the court based system was failing to meet the needs of their clients. Under this system, the solicitors arrange ?four way? face to face meetings with you and your partner. We all work together to resolve not only financial and children?s issues but also other matters important to you. We make a commitment not to issue court proceedings; this means we all work hard to find a solution.
Not everyone realises there is no such thing as a ?common law marriage?. There are different rules affecting the rights of unmarried parents. Also, when a cohabiting couple separates, the court does not have wide discretion (as with a divorcing couple) to order a fair division of the house where they have lived and perhaps brought up children. In 1903 Edgar Cozens started business in Hampton and in 1990 the firm (by then called Cozens & Moxon) joined with the practice of Harts, which had been operating in Teddington since 1940. On 1 October 2005 Graham Whitworth & Co, established in Hounslow in 1985, merged with Cozens Moxon & Harts.
